STREET VENDORS AND PUBLIC SPACE

Pueblo Planning partnered with the East LA Community Corporation to co-design pedestrian pathway spaces and merchandise with street vendors. The Los Angeles Police Department began prohibiting street vending on sidewalks at the MacArthur Park Metro Plaza and surrounding sidewalk area based on the concern that street vendors are in the way of pedestrians. Using quantitative and qualitative research and planning precedents, Pueblo Planning co-designed three layouts to empower street vendors to reclaim space while meeting the priorities of street vendors, the needs of pedestrians, and adhering to sidewalk design standards and requirements.
